In his op-ed published at Katadata.co.id on 24 July 2025, Mulya argued that:
Indonesia successfully negotiated a 19% import tariff rate to the US, down from 32%, the lowest in ASEAN (excluding Singapore). This successful economic diplomacy was led by Presidents Prabowo Subianto and Airlangga Hartarto.
The US consumer market remains crucial for Indonesia due to its large size, high purchasing power, and complementary production structures. Indonesian export products, such as garments and footwear, are labor-intensive and have a comparative advantage in the US market.
This 19% tariff rate represents the best outcome considering the increasing trend of deglobalization and protectionism. This tariff rate provides a competitive advantage for Indonesian products compared to competing countries, opening up opportunities for increased exports and job creation.
